Free Online Whiteboard
Scrawlspace Board is a free online whiteboard with a hand-drawn look and live cards for to-dos, code snippets, tables, Mermaid diagrams and runnable API requests, on one infinite canvas. Boards are saved in your browser, with no account, and shared sessions are end-to-end encrypted.
How to use Board

- Draw shapes, arrows, pen strokes and text, add images, or add cards like notes, to-dos, code and tables from the toolbar.
- Share a room link to work together with live cursors; press / to send a short cursor chat message.
- Export the board as PNG, SVG, PDF or a .scrawl file, or send a read-only snapshot link.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account to use the whiteboard?
No. Boards are saved in your browser, and you can share or sync them through links without creating an account.
Is collaboration on the board private?
Live sessions, snapshot links and sync are encrypted in your browser with AES-GCM. The key is kept in the part of the link after #, which browsers never send to the server. API request cards are the exception: those requests go through the server.
What can I put on a board besides drawings?
Sticky notes, to-do lists, code with syntax highlighting, tables, API requests, variables, Mermaid diagrams, timers, dot votes, comment threads and links to other boards.
Which templates are there?
Sprint plan, Retro (with a timer and a dot vote ready), Kanban, User story map, Mind map, API workspace and System map, plus a blank canvas. Pick one when you create a board.
Can I use my boards on another device?
Yes. Turn on Sync on the boards screen and open the sync link on the other device. Boards are encrypted with the sync key before they're stored, and no account is needed.
Can I use it offline?
Yes. It can be installed as an app, works offline, and keeps your boards in the browser.
How do I export a whiteboard?
Use export to save the whole board as a PNG, SVG or PDF, or as a .scrawl file you can open again later.
What people use it for
- Retrospectives: the Retro template comes with columns, a timer and a dot vote.
- Planning: sprint plans, Kanban boards and user story maps with to-do cards that stay editable.
- System design: draw the architecture, add Mermaid diagrams, and keep code snippets beside them.
- API work: paste a curl command to get a request card that runs and shows the status, timing and response; Copy as curl turns it back. To read a long response, paste it into the JSON formatter.
- Brainstorming and teaching: sketch freely on an infinite canvas and share a link so others can draw along.
How sharing stays private
When you share a room, a snapshot or a sync link, the board is encrypted in your browser before anything is sent. The key lives only in the link, after the #, which browsers don't send to servers, so the server stores data it can't read. Anyone with the link can read the board, so share it only with the people you mean to.
