FD Calculator: Fixed Deposit Maturity Amount

Enter the deposit, the bank's interest rate and the tenure in years and months to see what a cumulative fixed deposit pays at maturity and how much of it is interest. Interest is compounded quarterly by default, as most Indian banks do, and you can switch to monthly, half-yearly, yearly or simple interest.

How to use FD Calculator

  1. Enter the deposit amount.
  2. Enter your bank's interest rate for that tenure.
  3. Enter the tenure in years and months.
  4. Leave compounding at Quarterly unless your bank says otherwise, then read the maturity amount and the interest earned.

Frequently asked questions

How is FD maturity calculated?

For a cumulative FD compounded quarterly: maturity = P × (1 + r ÷ 4)^(number of quarters), where r is the yearly rate as a decimal. ₹1,00,000 at 7% for 5 years grows to about ₹1,41,478. If the tenure doesn't end on a quarter, the last part-quarter earns simple interest on the grown amount.

What is the effective yearly return?

The rate that would give the same maturity if interest were added only once a year. With quarterly compounding, 7% works out to about 7.19% a year, which is what banks sometimes call the annualised yield.

Why does my bank's figure differ slightly?

Banks round at each step and some count tenure in exact days. Many pay simple interest on deposits shorter than 6 months; choose Simple interest to match. Senior citizens usually get a higher rate, so enter that rate if it applies.

Is the interest taxed?

Yes, FD interest is added to your income and taxed at your slab rate, and the bank may deduct TDS. This calculator shows the amount before tax.

What about non-cumulative FDs that pay interest monthly or quarterly?

Those pay the interest out instead of adding it to the deposit. For a quarterly payout, the interest is simply deposit × rate ÷ 4 each quarter, and the deposit comes back unchanged at maturity.
