Frequently asked questions
How do I add page numbers to a PDF?
Open the PDF here, pick where the numbers go and what they look like, and click Add page numbers. The numbers are drawn onto the pages of a new copy.
Can I skip the cover page when numbering?
Yes. Type a range in Pages, such as 2-10, and set Start at to the number the first numbered page should show.
Can I use the format Page X of Y?
Yes. Choose Page 1 of 9 or 1 / 9 as the format and the total is filled in for you.
Which fonts can I use?
Helvetica, Times or Courier for English and other Western European languages, or Noto Sans for other scripts. Noto Sans also writes Greek, Cyrillic, Devanagari (Hindi, Marathi, Nepali), Bengali, Gujarati, Odia, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada; Gurmukhi and Malayalam aren't supported yet. You can also pick Indian digits such as १ २ ३ and write a custom format like "पृष्ठ {n} / {total}".
Can I number pages on my phone?
Yes. The tool works in mobile browsers; pick the PDF from your files and download the numbered copy.
Can I number a password-protected PDF?
Remove the password first with Unlock PDF, then number the unlocked copy.
Is my PDF uploaded to add page numbers?
No. The numbers are added in your browser and the file stays on your device.
