Compress Image to 20KB (Photo or Signature)

Get a photo or signature under 20 KB for an online form without guessing at settings. Everything happens in your browser, so nothing is uploaded, with no sign-up or file limits. For the sharpest result, crop to the face or signature first.

How to use Compress Image to 20KB

  1. Drop your photos or signatures here, or choose files. Several at once is fine.
  2. Each one is saved as a JPG of 20 KB or less straight away. Change the Target file size, or type a Custom one, for another limit. If the form also sets a minimum, such as 10 KB, enter it as the Minimum size.
  3. If an image shows Over target, pick a smaller Max width / height, or crop it tighter and drop it in again.
  4. Check the exact size, then Download each image or Download all as a .zip.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reduce a photo to 20 KB for a form?

Drop it on this page. It's re-saved as a JPG at the best quality that fits in 20 KB, and scaled down if lowering the quality isn't enough.

What does 20 KB mean here?

1 KB is counted as 1,000 bytes, so "under 20 KB" means at most 20,000 bytes. That is the stricter count, so the file also passes portals that count 1 KB as 1,024 bytes. Each result shows its exact size in bytes, so you can compare it with your form's limit.

Will a 20 KB photo still look clear?

For passport-style photos and signatures, usually yes. A full-size phone photo has to be scaled down a lot to fit, so crop to the face or signature first for the sharpest result.

How should I photograph my signature?

Sign in black or dark blue ink on plain white paper, photograph it in even daylight without shadows, then crop to just the ink with the image cropper and drop it here.

What does Over target mean?

The image couldn't get under 20 KB even at low quality and a much smaller size. Crop it first, or check whether the form accepts a larger file.

My form says 10–20 KB. How do I stay above the minimum?

Enter 10 as the Minimum size. A file that would come out smaller is saved at a higher quality, then at a larger size up to the original's, and its row shows whether it's inside the range. A tiny or very plain signature may still be marked Under minimum: scan or photograph it larger and try again.

My form also gives a pixel size. What do I do?

Resize to the pixel size first with the image resizer, then compress here. If the form also sets a minimum KB, enter it as the Minimum size.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser, so your images never leave your device.

Where a 20 KB limit is common

Many exam, recruitment and government forms ask for photos under 50 KB and signatures under 20 KB, sometimes with a minimum size and pixel dimensions too. The numbers differ between forms and change between years, so always check your form's official notice. The exam photo and signature size guide lists the current limits for SSC, UPSC, IBPS, NTA exams and PAN, with their sources.

How the 20 KB target is reached

Each image is first saved at a high quality. If it is still too big, the quality is lowered, but only to about half; after that the image is scaled down a step at a time until it fits. A photo with fewer pixels at decent quality looks cleaner than a full-size photo full of blocky artefacts. With a Minimum size set, a file that comes out too small gets a higher quality first, then larger dimensions, up to the original's.

If the form allows 50 KB for the photo, use compress to 50 KB instead and keep more detail.
