Frequently asked questions
How do I view an SVG file?
Drop it here or paste its code. It is shown immediately, and you can zoom or toggle between fit and 100%.
Can I edit SVG code and see the changes live?
Yes. The preview redraws as you type, so you can tweak colours, paths and sizes and see the result straight away.
Why check an SVG on a dark background?
Icons with dark fills can disappear on a dark theme. Switching backgrounds shows how it will look in each, and the checkered Grid shows which areas are transparent.
Why won't my SVG file open?
Some apps, such as the Windows Photos app, don't open SVG at all; a browser does. If the file still won't show here, check that it starts with an <svg> element that has xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg", and that its viewBox has four numbers.
Is it safe to open an SVG from someone else?
Yes. The preview shows the SVG as an image, so any scripts inside it don't run and it can't load other files.
Is my SVG uploaded?
No. Everything stays in your browser.
What an SVG file is
SVG is a vector image written as XML text: shapes, paths and text described by coordinates, so it stays sharp at any size and can be edited in a text editor. The viewer shows its width, height, viewBox and element count, which help when an icon appears at the wrong size.
