Base64 to Image Converter

Paste a Base64 string, a full data URI or a CSS url(…) value to see the image inside and save it with the right file extension. The format is detected from the data itself, and decoding happens in your browser, so nothing is sent to a server.

How to use Base64 to Image

  1. Paste Base64 or a data URI into the input, or use Paste from clipboard.
  2. Check the decoded image, its type and its size in the preview.
  3. Click Download to save it with the matching extension.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert Base64 to an image?

Paste the string here. The image type is detected from the data, the picture is previewed, and you can download it.

Does it work without the data:image prefix?

Yes. A full data URI, a bare Base64 string, URL-safe Base64 and a value wrapped in url("…") or src="…" are all accepted.

Which image types are supported?

PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP, AVIF, BMP, ICO, TIFF and SVG are recognised from their first bytes. If a data URI claims a different type from what the bytes contain, you'll see a warning.

Why doesn't my Base64 show an image?

Line breaks, spaces, URL-safe - and _ characters and missing = padding are fixed for you. If it still fails, the text was probably cut off when copying, or it isn't an image at all (it may be text, which Encode / Decode can read).

Is the data sent anywhere?

No. Decoding happens in your browser.

What Base64 is

Base64 writes binary data, such as an image file, using only 64 plain-text characters, so it can travel inside HTML, CSS, JSON or email. It makes the data about a third larger. A data URI adds a short header, such as data:image/png;base64, so a browser knows what it is.

To go the other way and turn a picture into Base64, use Image to Base64.
