Frequently asked questions
Why convert PNG to JPG?
For photos, JPG files are usually several times smaller than PNG, so they upload and share faster, and some forms accept only JPG.
Will converting PNG to JPG lose quality?
A little, because JPG is lossy. At 80 to 85 the loss is invisible in photos, but sharp text, lines and flat colours can show fuzzy edges. Keep those as PNG, or use a quality of 95.
What happens to transparent areas?
JPG has no transparency, so transparent parts are filled with white. To keep transparency in a small file, use Image to WebP.
What quality should I use?
70–85 usually looks the same as the original. Go higher for images with sharp text or lines.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Conversion happens in your browser.

When not to convert
Logos, icons and screenshots with text often look worse as JPG and may not even get much smaller. Keep them as PNG or use WebP. For a form with a KB limit, set a Target file size here, or use compress to 50 KB. To go the other way, use JPG to PNG.
