Compress Image to 50KB

Get a photo or signature under 50 KB for an exam, job or government form. Each image is saved at the highest quality that fits and made smaller only if it has to be, and you can do a whole batch at once. Nothing is uploaded: it all happens in your browser, with no sign-up or file limits.

How to use Compress Image to 50KB

  1. Drop your photos or signatures here, or choose files. iPhone HEIC photos work too.
  2. Each one is compressed to 50 KB or less straight away. Pick another Target file size or type a Custom one if your form asks for it, and enter the form's lower limit as the Minimum size.
  3. Drag across the before/after view to check it's still sharp, and check the exact size.
  4. Download each image, or Download all as a .zip.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress a JPG to 50 KB?

Drop it here. The tool finds the highest JPG quality that fits in 50 KB, and reduces the pixel size only if quality alone isn't enough.

What does 50 KB mean here?

1 KB is counted as 1,000 bytes, so "under 50 KB" means at most 50,000 bytes. That is the stricter count, so the file also passes portals that count 1 KB as 1,024 bytes. Each result shows its exact size in bytes, so you can compare it with your form's limit.

Why is my PNG saved as a JPG?

PNG can't lower its quality to save space, so it would have to shrink a lot to fit 50 KB. JPG keeps more detail at the same size. Change the Output format if you need PNG or WebP.

What size should a 50 KB photo be in pixels?

Check your form's notice. A passport-style 3.5×4.5 cm photo is about 138×177 px at 100 dpi or 413×531 px at 300 dpi. Use the passport size photo maker to get the shape, then compress here.

The portal says my file is too small. What now?

Some forms set a minimum as well as a maximum, such as 20–50 KB. Enter the lower number as the Minimum size: a file that comes out too small is saved at a higher quality, then at a larger size up to the original's. Each row shows the range and whether the file is inside it. If it's still Under minimum, start from a larger, unedited original; the file is never padded to reach the number.

Can I do this on my phone?

Yes. It works in mobile browsers: choose photos from your gallery, including iPhone HEIC photos, and download the results.

Can I compress several images to 50 KB at once?

Yes. Drop them all in; each is compressed separately, and you can download them together as a .zip.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Compression happens in your browser, so your photos never leave your device.

Photo or signature?

Many exam and government forms ask for photos under 50 KB and signatures under 20 KB; check your form's notice for the exact limits and pixel sizes, or see the exam photo and signature size guide for SSC, UPSC, IBPS, NTA exams and PAN. For a signature, use compress to 20 KB. For a photo, crop to the head and shoulders first, since less background leaves more of the 50 KB for your face.

How the 50 KB target is reached

Each image is first saved at a high quality. If it is still too big, the quality is lowered, but only to about half; after that the image is scaled down a step at a time until it fits. A photo with fewer pixels at decent quality looks cleaner than a full-size photo full of blocky artefacts. With a Minimum size set, a file that comes out too small gets a higher quality first, then larger dimensions, up to the original's.

If a form wants the photo inside a PDF, convert it with JPG to PDF and shrink the result with Compress PDF.
